PL 2185 - Ethical Theory: Individual and Society

(3)
Broadly understood moral philosophy, or ethics, is the study of how we should live our lives. It aims to address the perennial philosophical question: What is the good life for human beings? How we answer this question has significant consequences for our lives; it impacts the choices and decisions we make both for ourselves and for others. This course will examine a number of historically significant ethical theories, including thinkers and theories in the Catholic intellectual tradition. Student understanding of these theories will be enhanced through consideration of specific moral issues and problems as they relate both to the individual and to the individual’s relation to society.
