PL 2195 - HON: Ethical Theory and Healthcare (3) The content and purpose are the same as the PL2180 Foundations course, though the perspective is broadened and deepened. Ethics is the study of how to live the good life. As part of the Wisdom Core Curriculum, this course will explore the theoretical underpinnings of what constitutes the “good life” as presented throughout history. This will involve a rigorous examination of major ethical theories developed in Western philosophy, including thinkers and theories in the Catholic intellectual tradition. The class will also enhance student’s understanding of the theories being studied by applying each of these theories to common dilemmas that arise in the field of medicine and health care. In keeping with Rockhurst University’s Jesuit Mission, a central goal of this class is to help the student become a more “morally reflective” member of society.
Prerequisite: HONORS (HN) status or instructor approval.
