This course introduces students to the Roman world, from the foundation of the Republic until the transformation of the Empire. Students will explore Roman expansion in the Mediterranean world; political and military development; economics and slavery; urban conditions and daily life; the status of women; Christianity and paganism; the legacy of Rome in Late Antiquity.
