MLS 4030 - Clinical Immunology / Immunohematology - North Kansas City Hospital

This course incorporates theory and laboratory study of immunology and immunohematology, including humoral and cellular immune response; principles of antigen function, antibody formation and interactions; immunochemistry; serologic and molecular diagnostic methodology; immunohematologic explanation of blood group systems, antigen/antibody detection principles and procedures; methods for phenotyping, screening, compatibility and cross-matching blood products; special testing; component therapy; prevention and evaluation of transfusion reactions; blood banking product storage and utilization; quality control procedures, manual testing and instrumentation.  This course emphasizes various immunological testing techniques, medical significance, treatment, and clinical correlation to disease states. 

Prerequisite: Acceptance to an affiliated accredited school of Medical Laboratory Science.
