MLS 4040 - Topics in Medical Laboratory Science - North Kansas City Hospital (4) This course incorporates theory and laboratory study of urinalysis and body fluids; phlebotomy and specimen collection and processing; hospital and laboratory orientation; general laboratory skills and safety procedures; lab information systems; lab management; case studies; special projects; seminars; lab operations, methodologies, test method research and validation; quality and regulatory standards; ethical and legal considerations in the field of laboratory medicine. This course emphasizes professionalism, communication, importance of teamwork and patient centric focus in the laboratory, patient care, and interactions with other health professionals, the precision necessary to deliver quality results, lab management and operations, and case studies for authentic and relevant medical significance of lab results, including treatment and clinical correlation to disease states.
Prerequisite: Acceptance to an affiliated accredited school of Medical Laboratory Science.
