PL 2196 - HON: Ethical Theory and the Environment (3) The content and purpose are the same as the PL2190 Foundations course, though the perspective is broadened and deepened. Ethics investigates the values and behaviors that lead to a good life for humans and that guide our moral relations with one another. Our relationship to our shared environment is a significant factor for living a good, moral life. By examining a number of historically significant ethical theories, including thinkers and theories in the Catholic intellectual tradition, students will explore fundamental ethical values and the factors involved in moral decision making. These theories will help us to develop an ethical perspective toward the environment and to evaluate issues related to living an environmentally ethical life. Issues covered will include the question of environmental racism, global and inter-generational justice, and animal rights.
Prerequisite: Honors status or instructor approval. Core Curriculum: (UQ, UQP)
