PT 7640 - Management of Pediatric Conditions

This course provides an in-depth exploration of pediatric physical therapy, covering essential aspects of common pediatric diagnoses, management strategies, and treatment considerations. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of various pediatric conditions including developmental delays, neurological disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions, along with evidence-based approaches to assessment and intervention. Emphasis will include considering the unique needs of pediatric patients including age, developmental stage, and individualism. Additionally, the course will dive into the social determinants of health, examining how socioeconomic factors influence pediatric health outcomes. Students will also explore the legal and regulatory frameworks governing pediatric physical therapy in early intervention and school-based settings, covering laws such as Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and Americans with Disability Act (ADA). This course will equip students with the foundational knowledge in pediatric physical therapy practice, fostering a holistic understanding of pediatric conditions, social determinants of health, and legal considerations in early intervention and school-based therapy settings. 

Prerequisite: Completion of all courses in Year I of the DPT curriculum.
Corequisite: PT 7641 .
