Manresa: Rockhurst’s First Year Journey
|
|
Manresa, Rockhurst’s First Year Journey Program, gets its name from Saint Ignatius’ experience in Manresa, Spain and many say it symbolizes the foundation of Ignatian education. His experiences in Manresa were experiential; it was based on trust; and it invited a discovery of God in a variety of created realities. Manresa was an event in divine tutelage for Ignatius, revealing how he was to help others to respond to that tutelage in their lives. The first semester of our course will consist of modules that relate to being successful at Rockhurst. The course is part of a larger First Year Experience at Rockhurst, which includes Orientation, Manresa (RU 1010 and 1020), How to RU, and your Cornerstone Seminar Course. RU 101 is a graduation requirement.
The goal of Manresa is to help you reflect on and answer the following questions?
- What do I want to accomplish?
- How do my actions impact others?
- What do I need to do to set myself up for success?
Student Learning Outcomes:
- The student will begin to create a holistic plan identifying curricular and co-curricular experiences that lead towards attainment of personal and professional goals.
- The student will begin deepening the awareness of self by clarifying values and identity and articulate how they shape their perspectives and impact being a person for and with others.
- Students will become familiar with healthy habits, discern which habits support their well-being, and how those will help their personal and academic success.
- Students will identify and use appropriate campus resources to engage in opportunities both in and outside the classroom and assist them in navigating the University.
