Minor Field of Concentration
This Education minor will expand opportunities for undergraduate students to develop skills and knowledge in the field of education. This non-certification Education minor will provide a wider spectrum of career options by strengthening real world application through teaching and learning with others. Students who have minors and/or majors in Arts and Sciences may want to further expand their opportunities for future careers in educational-related fields such as a museum, a zoo, or a business that offers professional development for employees. Students who want to teach theology in a high school for which there is no state certification in that field would benefit from this minor.
The minor in education consists of twelve (12) hours taken from any 3000- or 4000-level education course. Students who wish to earn a minor in education are encouraged to declare their minor early and then meet with their minor advisor who can help them determine which education courses will best meet their future career goals. A grade of C or higher is required in each upper-division course of the minor. (A grade of C- will not satisfy the requirement.)
Those who decide to switch to a major in education will be required to fulfill all of the Education Department/state of Missouri requirements needed for certification.
