The Philosophy Bioethics Track reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the field of bioethics, offering students an opportunity to integrate diverse coursework around this central theme of ethics in medicine, health care, and the life sciences.

Philosophy Major, Bioethics Track Requirements
Total 15 specified philosophy hours - 33 total (minimum) with Capstone course.
Specified Philosophy Hours:
5 Additional upper-division related courses (minimum 15 hours):
A total of 5 additional upper-division related courses are required, for a minimum of 15 hours. These hours will be satisfied by further coursework in the life sciences, health and medical-related fields, and if desired, one additional philosophy course in applied ethics.Students are to work with their Philosophy Major advisor to select appropriate upper-division related courses. The courses are to come from a minimum of two different disciplines. A grade of C or better is required in all upper-division courses for this major. (A grade of C- will not satisfy the requirements.)
3-hour Capstone Project
The Bioethics Track will include a 3-hour Capstone Project as an Independent Study with a member of the Philosophy Department, ideally to be completed in the Fall of the final year of coursework for May graduates, or in the Spring for December graduates. The goal of the Capstone Project is to integrate all of the student’s coursework for the Major into a public presentation with a written paper component.
