The major in Theology and Religious Studies consists of a minimum of 24 upper-division semester hours in addition to completing one of the following courses: TH 1000 , TH 1020 , TH 1050 or TH 2000 . All courses with a designation of TH 3000 and above count toward the 24 upper-division hours. A senior exit activity/interview is required.

Required Upper Division Courses:
Additional Requirements:
Students will take an additional 21 credit hours with a designation of TH 3000 and above to complete the 24 required upper division hours. Majors are urged to take more than the minimum of 24 hours of upper division work.
An additional 12 credit hours of related upper division courses are also required, to be chosen with the guidance of the major advisor. These 12 hours of related course work must pertain directly to the major concentration. Selected courses in history, philosophy, or other disciplines approved by the major advisor, constitute related course work.

Also required are two semesters of college-level study of one language other than English. This requirement may be fulfilled by completing two semesters of college-level literature in one language other than English. In either case the language courses must be taken for college-level credit. [Neither College Level Examination Program (CLEP) nor Advanced Placement (AP) exams fulfill this requirement.] A grade of C or better is required in each upper division course of the major. (A grade of C- will not satisfy the requirement.)
Optional Senior Capstone
Senior majors in Theology & Religious Studies are strongly encouraged to engage in a capstone research project in either the fall or spring semester of their final year. Research would result in an article-length study on a topic of the student’s choice in consultation with the capstone director (a faculty member appointed for that task by the department). Students pursuing this option should consult the Department Chair prior to course registration of the semester they wish to undertake their capstone research project.
