MSN: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Mission

Saint Luke’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences graduate nursing program focuses on discovery, scholarship, leadership and practice that meets societal needs for advanced nursing practice for diverse populations in diverse settings. The graduate nursing program provides a rigorous academic curriculum with rich and varied clinical opportunities.

Program Goals

  • To prepare advanced practice nurses as nurse leaders who provide safe, competent care to diverse populations in primary and/or acute care settings.
  • To prepare nurse educators as nurse leaders who facilitate learning and are competent in teaching, curriculum development and evaluation.

Program Outcomes

  • Students will successfully graduate within their cohort time frame.
  • Students express satisfaction with the MSN program.
  • The MSN faculty maintain subject matter expertise.
  • Students successfully pass their specific certification examination.
  • Students will obtain employment after graduation.

Student Outcomes

At the completion of the program, the graduate will be able to:

  • Incorporate scientific and theoretical concepts from nursing and other relevant disciplines to improve nursing practice in a variety of settings.
  • Exhibit organizational and system leadership skills to promote ethical, safe and high- quality patient care.
  • Contribute to improvement and safety in health care organizations using validated instruments, methods and quality improvement measures.
  • Incorporate research to guide clinical decisions, patient education and professional practice.
  • Use appropriate technology while engaging in care management, collaboration, education and decision making.
  • Advocate for consumers and interprofessional health team members through policy development and implementation.
  • Collaborate effectively as an interprofessional team member or leader to facilitate care for individuals and populations in diverse settings.
Master of Science in Nursing students must complete the following requirements:
  • Complete the prescribed credit hours for the chosen MSN track.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Students may repeat a course only one time.

Students are allowed to repeat a maximum of ONE course.

 

AG-NP Full-Time Sample Course Sequence:

This is a sample plan of study. The courses can vary depending on a student’s transferred credit. Please work with the MSN advisor to complete your plan of study.

AG-ACNP Certificate Program


Students who have completed all lower level course requirements for the AG-ACNP may obtain a Certificate in Acute-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.  The Certificate follows same course sequence to complete all upper level course requirements.

A “gap analysis” of the student’s previous work will be completed by the AG-ACNP track director in order to determine what requirements must be fulfilled to obtain the Certificate.
