Pre-Prosthetic and Orthotic Program

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Special Undergraduate Academic and Co-Curricular Programs

Rockhurst undergraduate students interested in the pre-prosthetic and orthotic program will obtain a Bachelor of Science degree that prepares them to be eligible for admission to a Master of Science program in Prosthetics and Orthotics certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) and the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE).

For example, a double major in Physics of Medicine and Exercise Science (or majoring in one and minoring in the other) could be advantageous, as would majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Students should work closely with their Pre-Health advisor to tailor their prerequisite coursework to the graduate program of choice (clinical or biomedical engineering).

Prerequisite courses for graduate programs in Prosthetics/Orthotics include introductory biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy, psychology, statistics and math beyond Algebra. As admission to graduate programs in prosthetics and orthotics is highly competitive, students are encouraged to choose majors and participate in related experiences strategically.

Students interested in pursuing a Master’s program in Prosthetics/Orthotics after graduation should contact Dr. Nancy Donaldson, Ph.D., at nancy.donaldson@rockhurst.edu for assistance in planning their course of study.
