Manresa: First Year Journey Program

Manresa, Rockhurst’s First Year Journey Program, receives its name from Saint Ignatius’ experience in Manresa, Spain and many say it symbolizes the foundation of an Ignatian education.

Saint Ignatius’ experiences in Manresa were experiential, and were based on trust, inviting a discovery of God in a variety of created realities. Manresa was an event in divine tutelage for Ignatius, revealing how he was to help others to respond to that tutelage in their lives.

The First Year Experience at Rockhurst includes Orientation, completion of a Manresa course (RU 1010  and RU 1020 / or for adult learners and transfer students, RU 1030 ) and one Cornerstone Seminar Course (WCC 1000 ).

Completion of the the RU 1010/1020 series or the RU 1030 Manresa course is a Rockhurst graduation requirement.

The first semester of the Manresa course will consist of modules that relate to being successful at Rockhurst.

The goal of Manresa is to help students reflect on and answer the following questions:

  • What do I want to accomplish?
  • How do my actions impact others?
  • What do I need to do to set myself up for success?

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • The student will begin to create a holistic plan identifying curricular and co-curricular experiences that lead towards attainment of personal and professional goals.
  • The student will begin deepening the awareness of self by clarifying values and identity and articulate how they shape their perspectives and impact being a person for and with others.
  • Students will become familiar with healthy habits, discern which habits support their well-being, and how those will help their personal and academic success.
  • Students will identify and use appropriate campus resources to engage in opportunities both in and outside the classroom and assist them in navigating the University.
