PL 3300 - Philosophy of Death and Dying (3) This course examines through a selection of classical and contemporary texts, the problem of death and dying from a primarily philosophical point of view. Topics covered include the problem of pain and suffering; the meaning of death; various theories of immortality; attitudes toward death; ethical problems raised by recent medical technology, including euthanasia, suicide, assisted suicide and the reasons for their popularity. It also examines religious, moral, and legal definitions of death and issues in the care of the dying.
Prerequisite: PL 1100 or PL 1150 . (PLII)
