HS 3000 - The Classical World (3) This course surveys Greco-Roman history, focusing on the period from the first millennium BCE to the collapse and transformation of the Roman Empire. Topics addressed include the development of the ancient Greek city-states, especially Athens and Sparta; slavery; the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars; the conquests of Alexander; the development of the Roman republic; Augustus Caesar and the Roman Empire; urban conditions and daily life; the status of women; Christianity and paganism; the legacy of Rome in Late Antiquity.
