PY 3350 - Psychology of Perception

(3)
This course examines how the brain interprets sensations to create a perceptual reality. Perception is an interpretation that is constrained by expectation, specific knowledge, motivation, and belief, all represented by brain systems that interact with stimulating energies in an environmental context. Different sensory systems transduce electromagnetic, chemical, or mechanical energies to reflect properties of the physical and social world. In-class demonstrations and critical reflections of perceptual phenomena will be used to foster an understanding of the field of perception.

Prerequisite: PY 1000  or PY 1100 .
