NS 1000 - Freshmen in Science Seminar (1) Fall semester
The purpose of the course is to assist beginning science/math students in exploring the nature of the study of science and mathematics and to explore career options in science and mathematics. It does this in the larger realm of the mission and values of Rockhurst University and its science and mathematics programs. This course has been designed to facilitate partnerships in learning with faculty, study groups and classmates; to propose time management strategies; to become more aware of science requirements in various fields of study; to discuss the importance of ethics in science as well as in the community at large; to evaluate the importance of personal wellness; to value diversity with science and the community; to examine the relationships between interests/values/skills as they relate to career alternatives, and to foster a sense of becoming “men and women for others” within a service learning project. This course is highly recommended for all first-year science/math students.
