College of Arts and Sciences
The Biomedical Engineering major is intended for students interested in attending graduate school in areas such as medical physics and bioengineering, as well as graduate pre-professional health and medical schools.
The Biomedical Engineering major is distinct from the Civil, Mechanical and Electrical majors offered through the joint engineering partnership between Rockhurst and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), and is not evaluated by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). All of the courses in the Biomedical Engineering major are offered at Rockhurst University and taught by Rockhurst faculty. The Biomedical Engineering major offers greater flexibility in course selection, particularly to include more non-engineering classes in the student’s courseload.
Students planning to seek licensure as a professional engineer in the state of Missouri or Kansas should pursue a Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering major concentration, offered at Rockhurst through the Rockhurst/UMKC Joint Engineering and Computing Program.
