Liberal Studies, A.A.


Grounded in the Jesuit and Catholic traditions of liberal arts education, the Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies provides a broad curriculum that will enhance students’ foundational knowledge, skills, and values for career advancement. An Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies will position students to transition into baccalaureate programs in a variety of disciplines.

Upon completion of the program, the College of Arts and Sciences will confer the degree of Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies upon students who have met the following requirements:

  • Completion of the 60 hours of the required program of study for the AA degree. At least 25 percent MUST be earned from Rockhurst University.
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

The Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies requires students to fulfill the courses listed under each of the following categories, earning a total of 60 credits:

English


Students fulfill the English credit by choosing from the following courses:

Communication


Students fulfill the communication credit by taking one of the following courses:

Biology, Chemistry, or Physics


Students fulfill the science credit by taking one of the following classes/with accompanying lab:

Philosophy and Theology & Religious Studies


Students fulfill this credit by completing one philosophy and one theology course:

Mathematics


Students fulfill the mathematics requirement by taking one of the following courses:

Electives


Students take 23-26 additional credits by choosing courses aligned with the student’s areas of interest. These may serve as a basis to pursue a future bachelor’s program.
