The Film Arts major is a liberal arts major consisting of a minimum of 39 credit hours, with 21 base credit hours in theatre and film acting, music and visual art courses, followed by a minimum of 15 credit hours in the student’s chosen track. All students will be required to take 3 credit hours of theatre arts practicum.

During the current 2022-2023 academic year, the Film Acting track is offered. In future academic years, additional tracks will be added to the Film Arts major.

Lower division requirements (6 credit hours):

TA 1200 - Acting I (3)
MS 1110 - Introduction to Music Theory (3)

Required Upper division base courses (15 credit hours):

TA 3250 - Directing (3)
MS 3520 - History and Development of Music in Film (3)
AR 3580 - Digital Editing I (3)
EN 3800 - Introduction to Film (3)
EN 4120 - Screenwriting (3)

Film Acting Track advanced courses-select 15 credits from the following:

TA 3100 - Stage Movement: Mask and Body (3)
TA 3202 - Shakespeare for Actors (3)
TA 3210 - Training of Standardized Patient (3)
TA 3301 - Improvisation (3)
TA 3302 - Acting II: Advertising and Marketing (3)
TA 3303 - Acting III: Film and Television (3)

Required Practicum Credit Hours (3):

To earn a total of 3 credits in practicum hours, students are required to take 1 credit hour per semester for three semesters of the following practicum courses:

TA 3500 - Acting Practicum (1)
or
TA 3540 - Running Crew Practicum (1)

Note:

Also required are 12 semester hours of related upper-division courses, chosen under the directon of the major advisor. A grade of C or better is required in each course of the major. (A grade of C-will not satisfy the requirement.)
