English Minor, Writing Emphasis

Lower Division Requirements:

The minor in English consists of the lower-division prerequisite choices of:

• EN 1110 - College Composition I (3) and
• EN 1120 - College Composition II (3)

• or

• EN 1140 - English Composition (3)

• or

• EN 1150 - Honors Composition (3)

Upper Division Requirements:

Upper-division requirements in one of two areas of emphasis: literature or writing. Within the literature emphasis, students must take any four of the English Department’s upper-division literature course offerings, such as those in period, genre, figure, theory, or interpretation.

• EN 3200 - Exploring the Self in Reading and Writing (3)
• EN 4120 - Introduction to Screenwriting (3)
• EN 4150 - The Tradition of Rhetoric: Principles and Practices (3)
• EN 4170 - Teaching of Writing (3)
• EN 4180 - Report Writing (3)
• EN 4190 - Literature and Orality: A Rhetorical Synthesis (3)
• EN 4920 - Report Project (3)

Note(s):

A grade of C or better is required in each upper-division course of the minor. (A grade of C- will not satisfy the requirement.)
